Over the course of the last twelve months the global unsaturated polyester resin market has been faced with increase after increase. This has been driven primarily by a slow down in trade which has resulted in increasing pressure on raw material pricing.
We have seen from our European partners and their competitors that prices have moved almost every month during 2011 and again in January 2012. In South Africa we were to a degree shielded by this in the first half of last year by our strengthening currency, however in the second half we started to see the effect of the sliding rand. Into 2012 the rand has shown some recovery over the last few weeks, but not sufficiently to compensate for the increasing US Dollar and Euro raw material prices.
The pricing change will take effect on all deliveries from the 5th of March 2012, and will be as follows:
Orthophthalic Resins R1.25/kg increase
Isophthalic Resins R1.40/kg increase
Gelcoats and Compounds R1.40/kg increase.
We understand this has a significant impact on our customers businesses, and is resultantly difficult to accommodate.
