scottbader scottbader

Scott Bader has been developing Crystic resins and gelcoats since glassfibre (GRP) vehicle bodies were first produced in the early 1950s.

Crystic resins and gelcoats are now well established as products which can be used in the design of aesthetically pleasing parts or complete vehicle bodies - cost effectively and to the highest quality. In addition, both Crystic Crestomer and Crestabond structural adhesives are ideal for many bonding applications.

Typical applications

Crystic resins and gelcoats are used with confidence in a wide variety of land transport applications:

  • Performance sports cars
  • Caravans and mobile homes
  • Public service utility vehicles
  • Lorries, vans and commercial vehicles
  • Off highway vehicles
  • Emergency services vehicles
  • Passenger transit systems

Design and Production Versatility

Polyester composite materials can be moulded into simple panels or complex shapes. A "one off " prototype can be produced or multiple mouldings of virtually any size or quantity.

More recently moulders have been making GRP vehicle body parts using higher productivity techniques such as spray moulding and closed moulding. Scott Bader has expanded its range of Crystic products to meet these needs and now has extensive technical expertise in closed mould technology.

Features and benefits

  • Lightweight, with excellent strength to weight ratios
  • Moulded parts can be bonded, offering more design freedom
  • Resins designed to meet regulatory standards
  • Outstanding surface finish with gelcoats
  • Gelcoats can be pigmented to provide body colour, matched to other parts
  • Polyester resin surfaces can be prepared and over painted to automotive paint finish standards
  • Excellent weatherability and water resistance
