History Scott Bader was founded by Ernest Bader in 1921. Today it is a Euro 220 million multinational chemical company, employing 600 people worldwide, carrying on his socio-economic vision. Scott Bader's Business Expansion 1940 Head office, R & D and first production plant built in Northamptonshire, England. 1966 Commenced production with a new factory in Amiens, Northern France. 1978 Acquired Strand Glass Fibre distribution business. 1982 Acquired Synthetic Resins Ltd. 1993 Established Scott Bader Middle East and built a new plant in Dubai, UAE. 1993 Scott Bader Pty established as a joint venture with SMG Resins and Charter Chemicals. 1993 Expanded sales and distribution operations in Sweden to cover Nordic region. 1998 Production capacity expansion via a joint venture with Chromos Tvornica Smola d.d.,Croatia 1998 Set up sales & distribution in Liberec, Czech Republic to cover Eastern Europe and Russia. 2000 Opening of the new "Ernest Bader" Technical Centre in Wollaston, England. 2002 Plant expansion in UK with opening of the New Polymer Plant in Northamptonshire, England. 2002 Set up Scott Bader Iberica, s.l. sales and distribution in Barcelona, Spain.  2005 Expansion of production capacity in Amiens, France. New reactor commissioned and installed 2006 Scott Bader Inc. sales and distribution expands into also doing Composites Sales in USA. 2007 Opening of Scott Bader Asia Pacific sales and distribution operations in Shanghai, China 2007 Acquired 100% ownership of Croatian plant and Scott Bader d.o.o. registered. 2008 Expansion of plant capacity in SBME plant in Dubai, UAE. Ernest Bader's Socio-Economic Vision The company was family owned and conventionally managed for 30 years, but Ernest Bader, the founder was never comfortable with a capitalist governance structure.  For many years he and his family sought a 'third way' of distributing the capital of the company in a less divisive manner and a method by which all employees could have a 'real' say in the company. They believed that labour should employ capital acknowledging the equality of everyone as individuals and that only a restructure of the way industry was managed would bring this about. In 1951 a radical decision was made and The Scott Bader Commonwealth was created. This changed the fundamental structure of the company and shared out responsibility for its long term future to its employees.
