Further RINA Certification Marine Approvals for Crystic® Crestomer® Structural Adhesive Range
RINA S.p.A has recently given further composite application approvals to products in the Crystic® Crestomer® range of high performance structural adhesives from Scott Bader. These latest RINA approvals have been awarded to two bulk grades: Crestomer® 1152PA (MEKP- cured ) and 1151A (BPO-cured) both supplied in 200kg drums and 25kg kegs, as well as the two 380ml cartridge versions: Crestomer® Advantage 10 and 30, which offer a choice of either a 10 or 30 minute working time. The RINA certification is for the use of these products for the structural bonding of glassfibre reinforced plastic composites.
RINA certification approval was given to Crystic® Crestomer® 1196PA back in May 2009, for its use as a structural adhesive to bond cores and skin laminates in marine sandwich structures. This continued investment by Scott Bader in obtaining additional RINA approvals for other Crestomer products was in response to ongoing customer requests for RINA certification, particularly from Italian FRP leisure marine boat builders, in addition to the Lloyds and class 1 DNV approval which most products in the Crestomer range have had for many years.
The range of Crystic Crestomer products, developed and manufactured by Scott Bader for over 40 years, offer FRP boat builders an alternative method of construction which improves the overall build quality both structurally and aesthetically. At the same time, boatbuilders benefit from significant productivity gains due to dramatically reduced production times for certain applications, such as bulk head or stringer bonding, while also providing major weight savings in joint areas compared with over laminating. These major quality, productivity and weight saving benefits, along with proven long term performance in use are some of the reasons why leading manufacturers of fibreglass leisure craft in Europe, the USA, South America, China and other parts of Asia specify Crystic Crestomer to bond parts in their boat constructions.
