Scott Bader Showcasing Caterham Seven Sports Car with Lightweight CFRP Roof At Advanced Engineering 2017

Scott Bader is exhibiting (stand O130) at Advanced Engineering 2017, which this year runs from 1-2 November at the NEC, Birmingham, UK. As well as key products featured on the stand, show visitors can see in the Composites Feature Zone a Caterham Seven CSR-260 sports car with a custom made CFRP roof, moulded using Scott Bader’s Crestapol® 1260 high performance resin.

The lightweight carbon fibre composite roof for the Caterham Seven was vacuum infused by Marine Concepts Ltd. using Crestapol® 1260 urethane acrylate resin in preference to an epoxy resin based laminate; as well as being compatible with carbon fibres, the Crestapol infusion resin was selected as it reduced the overall production time, rapidly curing at room temperature with no need for post cure. Marine Concepts were also able to lacquer or post paint the CFRP roof with no additional surface preparation work required, saving further time and cost.

Terry Stubington from Marine Concepts commented: “Cost and ease of use were good unique selling points for the Crestapol 1260 resin. Scott Bader has been our preferred partner for over 10 years now and we have confidence in their products and team to assist us when needed. The reputation they have as a manufacturer and supplier is second to none in the UK Composites Market. One thing we notice with Scott Bader is that they are always investing in tomorrow’s products. Another thing we like is that they don’t have a high turnover of staff whose knowledge, gained through many years of experience, they pass onto their customers.”

During Advanced Engineering 2017, the Scott Bader stand will have on display their key products and services supplied directly and via its European network of national and regional distributor partners. On show will be: the full range of structural adhesives and bonding pastes including new shorter fixture time grades of Crestabond® MMA primer-less structural adhesives; the environmentally friendly, UV  weather resistant, range of Crystic® Ecogel ultra low styrene Iso and Iso-NPG spray gelcoats for demanding applications, including the ‘zero’ styrene Ecogel S0 PA grade; Scott Bader’s fire, smoke and toxic fume emission (FST) product range for manufacturing approved fire retardant FRP parts that can be used in many subterranean passenger rail, land transport, and building and construction applications; The GelTint service [ www.geltint.com ], available from the UK and across Europe. GelTint service centres rapidly measure and mix single or multiple 20 kg keg orders in any RAL, BS 381C, BS 5252, NCS colour or Scott Bader customer colours, using a standard marine grade gelcoat base, to a very high level of colour accuracy and consistency, delivered within a short lead time. A custom colour match service is also offered.
