Introduction

Rail and land transport flooring has been built the same way for decades. Plywood is heavy, phenolics are difficult to work with, and neither answers the questions the industry is now being asked about weight, fire performance and carbon.

Scott Bader and Armacell have developed an alternative. By combining Crestafire Bio, a 100% bio-based resin made from agricultural waste, with ArmaPET Struct GRX, a structural core made entirely from recycled PET, we have produced a composite sandwich panel that is 60 to 70% lighter than plywood, around five times more durable, and compliant with EN45545-2 HL3.

In this hour-long session, experts from Scott Bader and Armacell will take you through the material science, the test data and what it means for your production line. It is a technical session for technical people, with time for questions at the end.

If the timing does not work for you, register anyway. Everyone who signs up receives the full recording afterwards, so you can watch it whenever suits you.

What the session covers

Over the hour, Elena and Stefan will cover:

  • Why flooring is changing. The drivers reshaping land transport specifications: lightweighting, fire safety, multi-material construction, electrification and ESG reporting.

  • The chemistry behind Crestafire Bio. How a resin derived from agricultural waste products, rather than food crops, delivers inherent fire performance without the handling and finish compromises of phenolics.

  • Recycled PET as a structural core. How ArmaPET Struct GRX cuts resin uptake by up to 40% and reduces CO2 emissions by 37% against virgin PET, with a carbon footprint roughly 35% below the industry benchmark.

  • The test data in full. Peel strength, four point bending to ASTM C393 and tensile testing to ASTM C297, plus fire testing to NFPA 130 with capability against EN45545-2.

  • What it means in production. Dimensional and thermal stability, repeatability, bonded sandwich construction and the VOC-free processing that improves conditions on the shop floor.

  • Live Q&A. Bring your application. Both presenters will take questions.

Who should attend

This session is built for engineers, specifiers and production teams working in rail, bus, truck and land transport. It will be particularly useful if you are working on:

  • Weight reduction targets in vehicle interiors and floor structures

  • Fire, smoke and toxicity compliance, whether you are certifying to NFPA 130 (ASTM E162, ASTM E662) or EN45545-2

  • Embodied carbon and ESG reporting, where material choices now have to be evidenced

  • Bonded assemblies that reduce reliance on mechanical fixings

  • Consistency in production, where dimensional stability and repeatability determine part quality

About the partnership

Scott Bader has been developing composite and adhesive chemistry for over 100 years, from the first polyester resins manufactured in Europe in 1946 through to the launch of Crestafire Bio in 2024. Armacell pioneered structural foam cores made from recycled PET and has now converted more than four billion bottles into foam products, saving over 226,500 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Both companies bring global manufacturing and local technical support. This flooring solution is the result of that collaboration.

Registration is free. The session runs early for North American time zones, so everyone who registers receives the full recording to watch back in their own time.
