Matched Funding and Volunteering
In May 2014 we launched a group volunteering scheme, whereby everyone that works at Scott Bader is given an additional one day’s paid leave to use to volunteer for a not for profit/charitable organisation.
The scheme is regularly promoted throughout the year and stories on how individuals used their day are shared via TV screens.
In 2015 34% of colleagues in the UK used their day in a variety of ways as shown below.
The Wildlife Trust, Cambridgeshire & Northamptonshire – Two teams, one on the 8th September and other on the 9th October spent their day helping with clearance work at Summer Leys Nature Reserve in Wollaston. The volunteers trimmed back willow trees and cleared shrubbery. The Wildlife Trust supervisors were really impressed with the huge amount of work that both teams managed to achieve in a day.
Other examples of the types of opportunities undertaken by our UK colleagues have been: Reading at Schools; Painting of Pre-Schools; working at a local homeless centre; Interview techniques for special needs children; working at foodbanks; creating a 'mud kitchen for a Pre-School in Northamptonshire and supporting the elderly.
33% of colleagues in Croatia took part in ‘The Terry Fox Run’ which is an annual non-competitive charity event held in commemoration of Terry Fox, a young man whose leg was amputated due to cancer. The event was held at Zagreb’s Jarun Lake on 20th September 2015 and participants could either choose to run, walk or cycle round the course.
Colleagues in the USA helped with refurbishment at a Metropark.
Under this scheme the company matches £1 for £1 the money raised by individuals taking part in charitable fund raising activities up to a maximum of £1,000 per person per year.
During 2015 Commonwealth Members across the SB Group have raised circa £20,000 under this scheme. This means that 34 charities, locally, nationally and internationally have received double the amount that what they would have received because of the efforts of Scott Bader colleagues:
Events undertaken: Several individuals have taken part in Marathons; several people orgnaised sponsored quiz and race nights; a company coffee morning and wear it pink event.
